PFAS Treatment

Synergen Met Environment is providing unique solutions to some of the world’s most challenging environmental contamination issues. From the removal and destruction of PFAS contamination in liquids, to site remediation, we have a highly experienced team and a solution that will fit your needs.

Synergen Met has commercialised a proprietary foam fractionation process called Foam-ARISE to concentrate and remove PFAS from a range of liquid sources and thermal plasma technology to destroy the per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) held within that concentrate.

PFAS are harmful, persistent toxic chemicals present in large volumes in the global environment. Learn more about PFAS here.

This technology is a full turnkey service offering from Synergen Met Environment. The benefits to our customers include:

  • Little to no capital expenditure.

  • Synergen Met’s team will operate and maintain the equipment.

  • Full end-to-end chain-of-custody tracking of the PFAS concentration and destruction process.

  • Rapid project kick-off, as Environment provides all of the equipment.

  • Small physical footprint as the equipment is modularised.

PFAS Removal & Destruction Case Study

Compared with other processes in the market, we use extremely high heat to force the molecules apart and this prevents them from recombining as toxic chemicals.

Developed between 2018-2021, Synergen Met Environment’s foam fractionation process and our proprietary thermal plasma technology separates, concentrates, removes and destroys PFAS chemicals from liquids (e.g., concentrates, contaminated ground water, sludge water, waste dump leachate).

To achieve this, PFAS is broken down into gaseous base molecules, which are then reformed into easily-managed inert compounds. PFAS is completely destroyed and residual water is effectively cleaned to below EPA standard discharge levels.

Synergen Met recently completed a trial project in South East Queensland where toxic PFAS was removed from waste landfill leachate.

Dr Pradeep Shukla, Christopher Dunks and Vikram Anenden held a webinar on PFAS separation, removal and destruction using Synergen Met’s proprietary clean technology. The webinar is available below to view in two parts.

Environment Capabilities

Synergen Met Environment is currently building out additional capabilities to help industry meet critical environmental challenges head-on, by leveraging our plasma technology.

  • Synergen Met’s toxic waste treatment services includes the management and destruction of stockpiled fluorinated and chlorinated waste products, such as PFAS and PCB’s. We can facilitate effective destruction of various chemicals and provide the conversion of halogenated species into useful minerals.

Our toxic waste specialists are always available to meet, to provide consultation on the most effective way to handle and manage your toxic and hazardous chemicals while maintaining complete chain-of-custody and regulatory compliance.

  • Toxic leachate can rapidly spread to pollute the environment.

Synergen Met’s engineers can help you to manage the leachate onsite using their in-house Foam Fractionation technology. The process is highly energy efficient and runs of green power from the solar grid install on the plant roof top. The self-operating plant is remotely controlled and it separates hydrophobic chemicals such as PFAS and oily wastes from the landfill leachates into a small volume of a reject stream. The remaining treated leachate is free from PFAS and other oily waste.

Our expert teams can also assist in removal of other toxins such as ammonia from the leachate to reduce treatment load on the end of line water treatment plant.

  • Synergen Met’s engineers can help to build and operate activated carbon treatment plant on your site to manage chemical pollutants in your discharge water, to reduce toxic heavy metals, PFAS and other persistent organic pollutants. Our technical experts are available to assist the client in investigation, monitoring and management of liquid waste discharge to ensure that you carry on your business as normal.

  • Synergen Met’s team of engineers and scientists brings in a cumulative 150 years of experience in environmental management and can assist you in every stage of work needed to meet the environmental compliance. Our experts can provide support in design, development, installation, commissioning and ongoing maintenance of on-site waste treatment plant.
